It’s quite an area that many seem to dismiss as mere truancy and rebellion phase in our communities but these are the future and the soul of the community. These kids range from ages 14-21 and many are hooked on drugs and engaged in all kinds of activities that include prostitution, drug use, robberies, kidnapping, and other crimes. TLF-Ghana, with the support of community leaders and local residents, we have been able to reach out to a number of these at-risk youth who are seen peddling on our streets and sleeping in the open spaces at night in the bus stops and market centers engaging in all kinds of activities to assist them.
It has not been an easy process due to a lack of trust and the desire of the affected youth to break from such a carefree lifestyle.
With social interventions such as food, accommodation, and providing clothing for these young people we have been able to provide some comfort and relief through counseling and weekly visits to these young people. We have held community outreaches with the aim of social interaction and integration and are registering some into our vocational programs.
The road has been slow and laborious but the end goal is assuring.
