The genesis of this mission lies in a heartfelt visit on September 25, 2023, when the Executive Director came down from U.S. and joined other TLF team members to travel to Poase Cement. The purpose was to express condolences to a team member mourning the loss of his father. Little did they know that this gesture would unveil a community grappling with severe healthcare needs.
Poase Cement, located about 280 kilometers from Accra, is home to around 2500 residents, and on that rainy day, 200 individuals—men, women, young, and elderly—gathered to learn more about TLF’s purpose and mission.
It became evident that the community was facing critical healthcare challenges. Many of the elderly were battling severe cases of High Blood Pressure, type 1 and 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, malaria, and other chronic illnesses. The children, some struggling with autism, down syndrome, and physical challenges, required psychological intervention.
The lack of materials and information to manage these conditions was glaring, prompting TLF to take action. The upcoming event on January 15, 2024, is a direct response to this urgent call for help.
